What You Should Look For In a Day-care Center
Whether your child is an infant, toddler, or preschooler,
leaving him in the care of other people can be a daunting experience.
What to look for? How to judge? Who are the right people? Here is
a general guideline with tips on what to look for, to help guide
through on of the most important decisions you will ever make.
General Policies and Procedures
- What is the overall appearance of the center? Is it dark,
or is there plenty if light?

Does it appear to have adequate heat/air
conditioning?

Does the daycare appear overcrowded?

Are safety devices such as receptacle covers in
place?

Does the center appear clean and well maintained?
- Are the bathrooms clean and adequate?
- Are food preparation areas and refrigerators clean?

Are there enough cots and cribs for the children to nap?
Staffing

What is the general appearance of the staff? Are
the dressed appropriately, and appear to have good general hygiene?

Do they to interact well with the children? Are they
calm, well spoken and patient?

Does the day-care appear to have enough help?
Equipment, and Activities

Does the daycare seem to be structured in such a
way that the children have time to play on their own, as well
as being involved in organized activities?

Are both indoor and outdoor activities available on-site?

Do the toys and equipment available seem age appropriate?
- Does the daycare have established lesson plans and curriculum available
for your review?
- Is the curriculum broken into age appropriate groups such as infant,
toddler, older toddler, Pre-K,and upper Pre-K?
- Are the walls decorated with samples of the children's work?
